Local musicians out to impress at Battle of the Bands

Music fans in Braeside can support up-and-coming local bands next month at the first heat of this year’s Victoria Battle of the Bands competition.

The competition offers amateur musicians the chance to perform live on stage and have their music judged by industry experts. It is organised by The Push, a youth music scheme that runs across Victoria and supports creative youths and provides safe environments for young people to enjoy music.

Eight local bands will take part in the City of Kingston heat, with the winner going on to the Southern Metro regional final, which will be held in September and will be judged by industry professionals. All of the regional winners will be eligible to take part in the grand final at the Push Over Festival, which will be held over Labour Day weekend in March next year.

The eventual winners receive a prize pack including music equipment, a recording session, and a promotional film clip. Poster printing and a photo shoot for publicity are also included in the prizes, which are all designed to help the winning band hit the headlines.

The Kingston concert will also feature Australian metal band In Hearts Wake, who have recently released their first full-length album, as the headline act.

The local heat, which is suitable for all ages, takes place on Friday August 2nd at the Kingston City Hall, with doors opening at 5:00pm. Tickets can be bought on the door or in advance by contacting the Kingston City Council’s Youth Services department.
