Achieving Excellence In Print Marketing Composition

Have you heard the term ‘white space’ used when people talk about Print marketing composition? Did you know it has nothing to do with the colour white? Very confusing, we know, but it actually refers to the empty areas of the design. It is used to enhance the important information in the Rack Cards, Brochures, Posters, Banners, or Wall Graphics you can have printed at Minuteman Press Stellenbosch.  What is composition, and what are the basic principles?

Composition Defined

Composition is the foundation of your design, how you organise all of the elements. This structure can help your readers navigate and understand your message well. You can prevent your design from looking unfinished or flimsy by adding this necessary structure to it.

Print Marketing Composition Principles

Composition may seem complicated, but it's not as hard as it seems. With these principles in mind, you can elevate your designs to the next level:

Proximity

What are the relative distances between elements in your content? This principle is about visual space, which shows the relationship between related objects. It is possible to visually separate items that do not relate to one another or to place items in such a way that it is obvious that they are connected. This makes it easier to comprehend your designs at first glance.

White space

This is also known as the negative space and represents the space in your design that is left empty. It is up to the designer to ensure that sections are clearly defined and separated; this will make your work look cleaner and more comfortable. There is, however, a delicate balance, and too much white space can sometimes be detrimental to your design.

Alignment

It is crucial to maintain consistency when aligning objects. This applies to the alignment of words, paragraphs and images. A consistent alignment will help you create a cohesive feel for your work. Without alignment, your design might look rushed and unattractive.

Contrast

Contrast simply means one thing is different from the other. You can use two opposing elements to help you draw attention, grab the eye, or create emphasis in layout and composition. Consider a page where most of the background is white with small letters, with one simple red block containing big letters. The block will stand out.

You can create contrast by:

  • Contrasting colours
  • Multiple fonts
  • Different-sized objects

Hierarchy

It is simple to establish a hierarchy. First, decide what elements the reader should first notice. Next, make them stand out. There are several ways to emphasise important information, such as bolding them, changing the font, using different font sizes, placement, etc. Did you know we produce magnets, caps, and T-Shirts at Minuteman Press Stellenbosch?
