Postcards can be used for personal reasons or business purposes. When you are creating your own postcards there are two areas that need your attention: postcard design and postcard printing. Here are a few pointers to help you head in the right direction.
Design tips
- Who is your target audience: Postcard design is important for business as well as personal purposes. Postcards should appeal to the people who are going to receive them otherwise your message will be lost.
- High resolution images are the way to go: The front off the postcard is the first thing you will see. Use a high resolution image to avoid an unattractive, pixelated look.
- Have a purpose for your postcard: Postcard designing is fun but if you plan to Print them, the purpose of the campaign should be clear. Is it a marketing tool or is it your way of staying in touch with friends and family? Either way, the purpose will affect elements of the postcard design.
Printing tips
- Do not settle for cheap printing material: Unless you want your postcards to fall apart, invest in proper printing material. Postcards need to be durable and if you can print in gloss - even better.
- Find the best printers online: Compare prices and reputation online to find the best deal.
- Only print in full colour: Investing in postcard printing only makes sense if you use colour. Grayscale colours are rarely effective and half of the appeal will be lost before the postcards even had a chance.
- If you want a discount, ask for it: Usually there specials or discounts when printing in bulk. Even if you do not see any visible discounts just ask - you have nothing to lose.
