Create your own photo postcards

Colour postcard printing can be a simple and effective marketing tool if you follow the right steps to creating an aesthetically pleasing postcard. The right steps entail avoiding postcard printing mistakes that can ruin the look and impact of your Postcards.

Mistakes to avoid

Here are four common mistakes to avoid when designing and printing Postcards:

  • Don’t Print bland / dull Postcards: Avoid printing Postcards in black and white (unless this Forms part of your marketing campaign theme). People usually opt for black and white printing to cut costs. However, you may find that the response is unfavourable if your Postcards aren’t colourful, vibrant and attention-grabbing. The costs you think you are avoiding will backfire in your return response. The last thing you want to do is take short cuts that leave you with uninteresting looking Postcards.

  • Avoid a cluttered look: Cut the text on the cover. Even if you are printing Postcards as part of a marketing campaign – remember that these are still Postcards and can’t substitute for a brochure (there’s simply not enough space).  Use a colourful graphic to create appeal and a simple, compelling line of text to keep the viewer’s attention. The back of a postcard can be used for the rest of the message so do not bombard the viewer with too much information on the front.

  • Cheap is cheat:  When you cut corners, not only will your Postcards look and feel cheap, they will not be durable. This is one of the major postcard printing mistakes to avoid. Visualise the distribution process of your Postcards in order to determine how durable they need to be - then double their strength.

  • Don’t create tiny Postcards: Saving costs by compromising size will simply mean your Postcards will get lost amongst other mailbox items. Standard sized Postcards are the way to go.

Once you have sidestepped all of these pitfalls you are on your way to successful postcard printing!
