What to keep in mind when designing your own business cards

When you design your own business cards it is important that they contain all the vital elements and information in order to create an easy to read (and a memorable) networking tool. Regardless of the industry you are in, there are important elements that should always be included in these designs.

Important elements:

  • Key information: When designing business cards, the presence of your name or the name of your business is very important. This distinguishes you as an individual and helps the potential client to identify you and your business.

  • Location: Your copy must contain an address to ensure that the clients know where to find you or your business. This can be a physical address, but it is also wise to include your website URL (especially if you do business online).

  • Contact information: Including all the relevant contact information, such as a personal e-mail address (instead of a generic admin e-mail), is very important. This information ensures that the potential clients can contact you with easy.

  • Job title: This information on your business cards gives you credibility and it makes sure that your contacts know they are dealing with the right person.

  • Description: Your design must contain a short description of the business or the services you offer. A distinguishable tag line will help the client remember which industry you are in.

  • Logo: In your cards’ design, the logo is the most important element. It often over-shadows the rest of the information available. Your logo doesn’t have to be big, but it does have to be clear and unobstructed by the other copy and design elements.
