How Minuteman Press in Hatfield is Going Green
Minuteman Press in Hatfield has always been conscious of treading gently on Mother Earth and, therefore, doing our utmost to keep our company’s carbon footprint at a minimum. But in 2019, we are taking things one step further with our new going green initiative. Here is how we are making a difference when it comes to working towards a more sustainable environment:
Solar Energy
The new Minuteman Press Hatfield’s factory has been completely decked out in solar energy equipment so that we can make the most of the abundant South African sunshine and save our country’s valuable electricity. We have covered the whole concrete roof with solar panels and are amazed at how efficiently they work!
Recycling
Responsible waste management is another priority for our staff. For example, it is our policy to use only FSC certified paper. And, we recycle all of our paper waste on a weekly basis through Lothlorien Waste Paper. We also recycle all plastic and glass waste through Open Sky – a company that collects fortnightly. This means that there is usually only a half-filled bag of rubbish that is collected by Tshwane each week. Pretty impressive for a factory consisting of about 20 employees!
Water
Minuteman Press in Hatfield is also dedicated to being more water-wise. We collect rain water into two 5 000 litre tanks. This precious water is used for flushing toilets and caring for our beautiful garden (which is filled with only indigenous plants and flowers that do not require a lot of water).
Digital Equipment
Our office is furnished with only the best and most eco-friendly equipment. Our printers, for instance, utilise only dry-ink toners. These toners eliminate volatile organic compounds when printing and are 100% non-toxic.
