You have decided to avoid any unnecessary time wasting and inconvenience by sending your documents to a printing company. Making sure your documents are in proper form the first time will save you money, time and ensure you meet your deadline.
Ask the printing company which format they prefer for accepting documents. Today there are so many different ways of creating documents and many formats to save them in. Do not send off files without first confirming that the printers work with those particular file formats.
Some companies use the RGB (Red, Green and Blue) colour scheme for printing and others use the CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). Be sure that you know which scheme your chosen printer uses and adhere to the scheme throughout your design process.
Are your monitor settings correct? Most monitors will not match the printed piece. A tip here is to check a file onscreen against something you have had printed already. Change your monitor settings to match the Print out in your hand and this will ensure that you have a good idea of what the colours will actually look like.
If the documents contain images, only use high-resolution images. Most images must normally be at least 300 dpi. Again, check which resolution your printer would prefer. If your resolution is too low, it will result in low quality, blocky printouts. Overly high resolutions will make the files unnecessarily large.
When you have checked that you can supply the correct file format with all the necessary resolutions, colour settings and font instructions, proof-read your document one more time before sending to the printing company. It is wise to have others proofread your documents before you send it off for printing; a pair of fresh eyes can pick up errors you could have missed.
