Preparing your business cards for printing: A how to guide

Are you getting ready to Print a batch of Business Cards? One of the questions you’ll face is whether or not to Print on both sides of the card. Traditionally, only one side of the business card was used, however the other side can prove to be valuable space.

Using both sides of a business card means that you have to be twice as thorough when it comes to the images and content on your card. Throwing away a batch of incorrectly printed Business Cards is at its best, a rather painful exercise.

The same applies to document printing, especially when preparing large volumes of documents.

A checklist on preparing your business cards and documents for printing

  • Have others proofread all the copy on your card. Titles, names, contact details and addresses should always be checked and re-checked for Business Cards.

  • If you have an unusually shaped business card, double check the bleed and crop marks (these show the printer where to cut) before sending through to the printers. The same also applies to general documents. Consult with the printers on this if necessary.

  • Decide how many graphics and how much content you want on your business card. You can always create a design that cleverly uses colour (in accordance with your logo) in a cost effective way.

  • Embossing and foil stamping are unique and eye-catching ways of drawing more attention to your Business Cards.

  • When printing double-sided documents, ensure there is ample space for the joint to prevent words from being swallowed after the document has been bound.

When you get your Print job back, check it while you are still at the Print shop. Take a few moments to review your Business Cards with the printer to ensure you’re happy with the results.
