Covid safety in schools: Learners must avoid sharing stationery
Countries like Germany, lauded for one of the best Covid-19 responses witnessed a spike of new infections and hospital admissions going into the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. This highlights the difficulties of managing this virus. It can be under control for a period and then get out of hand very quickly if people relax and get complacent with safety precautions.
As learners settle into the new school year, we must make sure we don’t drop the ball and undo all the work we have done through social distancing and other precautions in our schools. We must, in fact, urge school heads to do more to keep the virus out of schools.
A few measures that schools have been taking to prevent the spread of Covid-19 include:

- Moving classes to temporary spaces or outdoors
- Holding school in shifts, to reduce class size
