Popular norteo band to play Kent
A Grammy-winning band that has sold millions of albums is coming to Kent.
Los Tigres del Norte, which translates as the Tigers of the North, is a San Jose-based band that originally formed in Sinaloa, Mexico, in the 1960s. The genre of music known as música norteña is regional music of Mexico, and often deals with social issues. Los Tigres became famous for their corridos, which are ballads that exemplify the norteño approach by dealing with subjects such as the lifestyle of the vaquero, what a criminal’s daily life is like, history, oppression, and other topics of social relevance.
The band’s lyrics move between corridos and romantic pieces, and more recently have included songs called narcocorrido, a new genre that describes the experiences of drug gang members. They refuse to shy away from the more difficult subjects that affect people in both the U.S. and Latin America.
The band has won seven Grammys and sold over 60 million records worldwide. They released their first album in 1968 and dropped their most recent effort in 2021, recording a new album almost every year. A review says:
Los Tigres will appear at Kent’s Showare Center on November 4. When events such as these are scheduled, organizers can use poster printing to create colorful advertising that will bring in audiences.

“I saw them for the inaugural Norteño at the Bowl, and . . . the Tigres brought the house down.”
