What's Happening in Kent, WA…

First YMCA to open in Kent

Residents of Kent will soon have a brand new place to keep fit, have fun and learn new skills, all thanks to a new community club operated by the YMCA.

The center, one of three recently opening in the south-Seattle area, is 500,000 square feet. It will house a pool, a community kitchen for social services, and of course, a fitness centre with studios suitable for yoga and other group classes.

The Y will also be child-friendly, as the pool will have a large splash pad, and there will also be a child-care center where parents can leave their children while they swim or work-out.

According to the organization’s website:

“The Kent Y will bring exciting opportunities to exercise and play, to swim and be fit, to learn new things, ad to work together to contribute to the life of our community.”

The YMCA has been fundraising for the project to the tune of $36.6 million. It reached 95% of its goal when Delta Airlines Foundation donated $250,000 earlier this year.

The YMCA is set to open over Labor Day long weekend. Meantime, curious visitors are encouraged to take “hard hat tours”, where they can take a sneak peek inside the center while construction is ongoing. Construction officially began on July 21, 2018.

Sponsors and government officials will be in attendance at the opening. Events such as grand openings and community initiatives are good opportunities for those involved to advertise their support with banner printing.

The Kent YMCA is located between Morrill Meadows Park and East Hill Park along southeast 248th Street.
