Upcoming expo has comic capers in store

Smudge! Comic Arts Expo is taking place in just over a month’s time in Arlington.

The theme of this year's event is ‘Comics in the Classroom’, and it provides a showcase for those who create independent comics, along with a learning experience for those who want to.

The expo will feature exhibitors, along with the screening of animated short films such as ‘The Art of Richard Thompson’. Workshops will be on offer on how to make comics, led by Santiago Casares, and character design in anime and manga with Pauli Kohberger.

Topics of some of the presentations set to take place at the expo include using comics in education hosted by three area teachers, and discovering how science is explored through comics presented by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In addition, there will be a panel discussion by members of the DC Comic Collective.

Those who produce independent comics will be showcasing their works, speaking to attendees, and possibly offering some items for sale.

This free event is open to people of all ages. It may appeal to some who work for graphics or printing companies in Arlington, perhaps inspiring them to use comic-inspired graphics in their next project.

Smudge! Comic Arts Expo will take place at Artisphere on March 14 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. To find out more about this event, visit the official event website.
