Marathon reaches milestone year

Nicknamed the ‘People’s Marathon’, the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is just around the corner, with more than 30,000 runners registered for the 40th annual event in Arlington.

The excitement begins with the MCM Health and Fitness Expo, which will host more than 100,000 visitors and in excess of 200 exhibitors and interactive displays. There will be food samplings and the opportunity to interact with running industry experts. All participants in the MCM, MCM 10K, and Healthy Kids Fun Run will be able to pick up their race day packets at the expo.

On the Sunday, those running the marathon will run past many of Arlington’s well known sites, such as the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and the Arlington National Cemetery.

Runners will be encouraged along the way by cheering spectators who will perhaps be waving Banners, obtained from local Print companies. There will also be hundreds of colorful flags lining the streets along the way at miles 22 and 23 for marathoners, and miles 3 and 4 for the 10K runners.

At the finish line, runners will be able to indulge in a free post-race massage, along with food and beverage samplings while enjoying the entertainers who will perform throughout the day. Runners and their families can also take part in the Crystal City Family Festival which will feature a fall festival suitable for everyone.

The MCM expo will be held on October 23rd and 24th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown D.C, with the runs taking place throughout this weekend. Visit the MCM website for additional information.
