Many Arlington jazz enthusiasts are looking forward to the citywide in-person 17th Annual DC JazzFest, which start today.
This event’s proceedings will be from 7:30 pm until 9:45 pm at the House of Sweden in George Town for Circle of Friends members. The performance will be by Sirintip “Tippan” Phasuk.
Starting at 12:40 pm, tomorrow’s line up will include the “Tribute to the Legendary Saxophonist Andrew White” for Howard University students and the Janelle Gill Quartet at the Kreeger Museum, beginning at 12:30 pm.
Saturday’s concert attendees will experience A Grand Night for Strings, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Orrin Evens’ Terreno Comun, Pedrito Martinez, Lakecia Benjamin and Pursuance, Laurin Talese, CarrKeys, and the Ernest Turner Trio.
For the Sunday, the festival will feature John Scofield, D-Nice, Celebrating Billy Taylor’s Centennial, and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Other performers will be The EJB Quartet, Chuck Redd Quartet, Marco Pigtnataro Jazzet, and Immanuel Wilkins Quartet.
The 7th DCJazzPrix International Band Competiton Finals also will take place on the Sunday at Union Stage, 740 Water Street SW at the Warf. Finalists include Giveton Gelin Quintet, Camilla George, and Dayramir Gonzalez and Habana enTRANCe. Doors open at 1:30 pm and the show will start at 2:00 pm.
Many attendees will go online to purchase DC Jazz Festival T-Shirts sporting this year’s graphic design and magnets, caps, and Mugs displaying the festival’s Logo Design.
Most performances will take place at the Wharf’s District Pier from September 1 through 5.
