Arlington set to celebrate Black History Month

February is Black History Month in the United States – an idea established in 1976 to draw attention to the accomplishments of African Americans that were often ignored in the history Books. One event that the city of Arlington is holding during Black History Month is the ‘Feel the Heritage Festival’.

Celebrating the history and culture brought to Arlington by African Americans, the event will feature musical entertainment, dance performances, food, children's activities, historic neighborhood walks, and vendors. It will no doubt be an excellent celebration of all that the African American culture has to offer, while also perhaps acting as an introduction for some.

Local arts and crafts vendors of all kinds will be selling items at the festival, including jewelry, artwork, and pottery. An eight-foot space can be rented for $35 before February 1 or for $40 after. Each vendor is supplied with a six-foot table and two chairs, although they must supply anything else they require themselves. No doubt some of these vendors will be working with Arlington printing companies to prepare. Investing in a banner will allow them to make their table more noticeable and might result in more sales. Organizers might also be arranging for flyer printing to get word out to the community about this yearly event.

The 31st annual ‘Feel the Heritage Festival’ will take place at the Langston-Brown Community Center on February 9 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Admission is free. For more information, please contact Laura Corridon at 703-228-3329.
