Arlington goes to the fair

Calendars tell us that the 41st annual Arlington County Fair will be upon us in less than two weeks.

This year, the event will include indoor and outdoor entertainment, a kids’ court, something for senior adults, Midway rides, and competitive exhibits.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will start things off. The Arlington County Board and the Arlington County Fair Board invites the community to attend the ceremony, at which snacks will be served.

Everyone is invited to participate in the parade. Local businesses, nonprofits, fair sponsors, and vendors will be among the parade entries. There will also be color guards, fife and drum corps, the fire department, girl scouts, walkers, bikers, and county officials. The route will be about a mile and will start at 816 South Walter Reed Drive in front if the Arlington Career Center. It will end at the fairgrounds.

The theme for this year’s competitive exhibits will be ‘Let’s Play’. Four age divisions will be competing in seven departments ranging from food preservation, baked goods, needlework and art, photography, and fine arts and crafts, to herbs, vegetables, fruits, flowers, and potted plants.

This event is scheduled from August 16 to August 20. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 16 at the fair, which will be outside the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. 2nd Street Arlington. The parade starts at 10:00 am on August 19.
