Arlington goes Baroque

Like one of this year’s musical Holiday Cards, the Forum Christmas Concert will be presenting an evening with the Aurora Baroque Ensemble before Christmas. The evening is entitled ‘A Rose E’er Blooming: Baroque Music for Christmas’.

The gala will begin with a Happy Hour and proceed on to the musical program. Food will be available for purchase.

Aurora Baroque Ensemble is composed of five members. Its violinist is Fiona Hughes, who performs both baroque and modern violin. Her degrees are from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Oberlin conservatory.

Organist Todd Fickley, a Washington, DC native, began his education at the Washington National Cathedral. He went on to the University of Wales to get a Master’s degree. Presently, he is the National Cathedral Choral Society’s Assistant Director and organist.

Theorbo, lute, and Baroque guitar will be performed by William Simms, who got his music degrees from Peabody Conservatory and the College of Wooster. Currently he is on the faculties of Hood College and Mount St. Mary’s University.

Woodwind specialist Sian Rickets will be the soprano and will also be playing the Baroque oboe and recorders. Ben-David Warner, Assistant Director of Music at Charlottesville’s St. Tomas Aquinas University Parish will be singing and conducting.
