This year will mark the 47th anniversary of the Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade, which will take place early in December.
The two-day event will celebrate Old Town Alexandria’s rich Scottish heritage.
The Christmas Market Place and Heather and Greens Sales will start the weekend activities. Fresh heather bundles, garlands, and wreaths of all sizes will be available at the Campagna Center. Local boutiques in Old Alexandria will be decked out in holiday finery, and a Taste of Scotland will be held in the evening.
The Campagna Center’s Scottish Christmas Walk Parade will be the highlight of the weekend. Bagpipes and drums will accompany the marching units, as reenactment groups, Scottish dancers, Scottie dogs, classic cars and dignitaries pass by. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be bringing in the Christmas season at the finish of the procession. The parade will end at Market Square, where everyone will get treated to a mass band bagpipe concert.
At sundown, the city’s waterfront will have the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, where 50 illuminated boats will cruise down Potomac River.
Locals will want to mark their Calendars for the weekend of December 1 and 2. The Scottish Christmas Walk Parade will step off at 11:00 am in Old Town Alexandria at the corner of Wolfe and St. Asaph streets on Saturday December 2.
The Holiday Boat Parade of Lights will also be on the Saturday, and will begin at 3:00 pm.Get a Free Quote for Calendars
