What's Happening in West Berlin, NJ…

Behavioral workshop to teach dogs coping skills

West Berlin pet owners with fearful dogs should note that nearby Voorhees Township is holding a training workshop called Help, My Dog is Afraid of Everything.

The workshop will be hosted by the Animal Welfare Association (AWA), a non-profit animal welfare organization relying entirely on local donations. It operates the largest and oldest spray and neuter clinic and no-kill animal shelter in South Jersey. AWA’s mission is to eliminate animal suffering and enhance wellbeing while also promoting the human-animal bond through its Pet Therapy Program, which December’s behavioral workshop is a part of.

The class is designed for dogs who exhibit fear or anxiety in situations such as meeting new people. AWA trainers will work with both owners and their dogs to replace the pet’s fearful tendencies with confidence. Training will focus on matters such as taking a treat from someone’s hand, targeting and recall, and learning not to fear loud noises. Before attending the workshop, organizers recommend finding a food item that one’s dog really loves as a reward and comfort item during class.

Non-profits often rely on flyer printing as an easy and affordable way to advertise details of events like this.

Help, My Dog is Afraid of Everything is scheduled for December 11 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The class price is $30. AWA is located at 509 Centennial Boulevard, Voorhees.
