Pirates achieve win in swashbuckling game

Pattonville High Pirates water polo team powered to an overtime victory against Kirkwood last Firdya.

Pirates coach Marcus Christian thought that his team might lose when Kirkwood tied the game right at the end of regulation time. He stated that the players were disappointed at the setback and gave them a pep talk before overtime. The Pirates went on to win the game 15-13 with goals by Max Bodde, Vadim Mamrenko, and Colin Parker.

Parker, who scored four goals in total, said that the late equalizer by Kirkwood was painful but it made the team want to work harder for the win. He went on to say that this is a big moment for the Pirates and will not be easily forgotten. Also scoring four points was Bodde, who concurred with Parker and added that the team remained confident throughout.

The game at the Pattonville Aquatic Complex in Maryland Heights was part of a District Tournament that lasted eight days and included 22 other teams. The Pirates have only been a team for three years, and had only won four out of eighteen games. Coach Christian stated that he wants to make water polo more popular in St. Louis County.
