Ice management company BSR Services is looking for other ways to melt the ice this winter, and has introduced a new scheme towards this aim.

The firm traveled to Egypt to gather enough salt for this year, adding more cost to their salting services. It has bought a machine called the BrineXtreme that uses liquid salt and a set of trucks to salt roads faster and with less of an impact on the environment. Liquid salt works more quickly and can be put on roads days before a storm. It also costs less and is easier on the environment because it uses less salt.

Usually, rock salt is used by residents and businesses to melt ice off of driveways and roads in all parts of the United States. Maryland Heights had a winter last year that broke records and needed more salt than usual, however, and rock salt has become more expensive this year as a result.

Carl Bolm, BSR Services president, stated that the liquid salt machine will help his company prepare for winter weather rather than having to go out after the storm has come.
