Long-standing bar to change name and owners

Tomorrow, March 30, will see Dorsett Inn bar in Maryland Heights close, only to reopen shortly after as Johnny's West.

The bar was in business more than 40 years, but just two weeks ago it disclosed the news on Facebook that it would be closing under its current guise.

James Pepper and Johnny Daus will be the new owners of the bar. Daus ran a bar named Johnny's in Soulard until it closed this summer.

According to one of the current owners of the Dorsett Inn, Grace Ziehl, she and her husband want to leave the bar scene and concentrate on commercial properties. The purchase was not publicly disclosed but she told the Riverfront Times that the owners of Social Haus also wanted to buy the bar.

Each of Dorsett Inn, Johnny’s West and Social Haus are bar-like establishments that serve food and alcohol. In addition, when hiring waitresses, they adopt a similar model to Hooter’s.

Such ideas have not always been a success. In 2016, John Racanelli tried to establish an additional Social Haus location at the Delmar Loop in University City where waiters would have only worn paint on their torsos and no clothing. However, the idea proved to be controversial and, following a legal row, the bar was closed after just two weeks.
