Ice rink planned for Chesterfield

Just as Maryland Heights recently broke ground on a new youth sports ice complex, neighboring Chesterfield has confirmed it will start construction on one of its own in autumn.

The nonprofit Hockey Association of Chesterfield is just $2m short of the $22.5m price of the complex they will manage as the owners. In March 2017, the three-sheet Hardees IcePlex ice complex was demolished after being sold, and the new facility will be its replacement.

The Chesterfield hockey team, the Falcons, and many teams at the high schools will use the new complex as their home location. Maryville University is creating hockey teams for men and women, and will use the rink as well.

Not only will the rink see various Midwest hockey tournaments, but also championships in figure skating. Officials are currently talking about the vendors and other organizations that will have space there.

According to CHA board president Mark Kraus, the rink will help develop a bigger group of ice sports and bring in money for the area, and it emphasizes St. Louis as a sports city and a firm investment. The board is also looking for both large public and private sponsors and small personal donations through itsGoFundMe page. Donations are tax deductible.

For large sponsors, a business card printing company could make a large business card-like advertisement for a client to hang over the ice.
