De Smet Spartans come from behind to win

Last Friday saw Christian Brothers College High School of St. Louis and De Smet Jesuit High School of Creve Coeur compete in lacrosse, with De Smet winning with a score of 17-11.

The game was the state boys quarterfinal of the Missouri State Lacrosse Association at Suntrup Field. The CBC Cadets gained the lead in the first quarter and ran up a a score of 4-1. Johnny Honig, attackman, scored two of the goals in that first period and would score one more during the game

De Smet Spartans came back in the second quarter however with eight goals. Six different team members, including Dan Kinzel, Thomas Barry, Carter Edwards, Connor Clancy, and Dominic Tocco, scored consecutive goals. According to Tocco, the win was about sharing the ball, and since the team as a whole trusts each player, it is as if it can help anyone make a goal. Luke Wetzel scored three goals, including one during the rich vein of form that saw six in a row.

Nick Silva, coach for the Cadets, said he would have settled for scoring 11 goals prior to the game and would have thought that would be enough to win, but it turned out to be the case that De Smet’s prolific offense made the difference.
