I-70 upgrade gets commencement locations
State highway officials anticipate commencing construction on the newly financed $2.8bn expansion of Interstate 70 approximately one year from now.
A portion located in Warren and St. Charles counties is being considered as the first phase to be developed. According to Eric Kopinski, the I-70 program coordinator at the Missouri Department of Transportation, there is also consideration being given to sections of the interstate highway in the suburban Kansas City and Columbia regions for the initial construction work.
He mentioned this during an interview conducted outside a session of the state Highways and Transportation Commission, which is responsible for overseeing MoDOT, where he went on to say:
Last month, Governor Mike Parson signed a budget bill that encompasses the much-anticipated upgrade of the I-70. This upgrade will involve adding a third lane going in both directions, spanning approximately 200 miles from Blue Springs to Wentzville. Graphic design could be used to illustrate construction plans.
The proposed plan aims to alleviate congestion on the road, which serves as a crucial trucking route, while also generating numerous construction jobs. Even before the Legislature approved the statewide funding for upgrading I-70, $39m had already been put aside for the addition of a third lane.

“One of those, we’re hopeful, will be under construction this time next year and then soon after that, every six months we’ll be awarding a project that will be pretty substantial in size.”
