Nonprofit arts group to hold program in Mound

A Teaching Artist from COMPAS will visit the Westonka Library in Mound to share stories about African American culture.

Connecting Through Stories is a program where attendees can listen to stories told by Danielle Daniel about African American history. The adventurous tales will promote courage, respect, and freedom to listeners. Daniel is an actress and author who has earned many awards, including the Many Voices Award and the Jim Dusso Artist Award. She also has a residency program with COMPAS that teaches people how to develop and craft stories by using their life experiences.

COMPAS is a nonprofit group that uses professional teaching artists to provide cultural experiences to several communities. The organization offers programs for people with disabilities, seniors, and students. The group’s COMPAS Residencies give those of all ages access to skill-building programs. Artists in the nonprofit can host workshops for up to 30 people and hold performances for audiences of 300 people. Some events from the organization include the Henna Design Workshop Series and Waste-to-Wonder.

The storytelling activity will be on Saturday, October 5th from 2:00 pm to 2:45 pm. There is no registration required to listen to Daniel’s stories. The event is suitable for family audiences. Libraries that coordinate community programs such as this can use poster printing services to share their storytime sessions with more families.
