What's Happening in Brandon, FL…

Brandon senior citizens to shine

Brandon is proving that seniors have talent too, with the local senior citizens’ center is hosting a talent contest specifically for those aged 55 and over.

Auditions for the BHN Bright Stars Senior Idol contest will be held at the end of this month to determine which of the seniors will go on to the big talent show coming later in the spring.

Everyone will want to bring cameras to get those one-of-a-kind shots for later poster printing, or maybe even some postcard printing. Families may also want to bring banners to show their support.

The Brandon Bright Stars Senior Talent Show is one of four regional talent shows conducted throughout the Tampa Bay area to showcase seniors’ talents, entertain, and raise funds for Tampa Bay nonprofits that support senior citizen causes and programs.

The top four acts from each talent show go on to perform at a regional competition at Ruth Eckerd Hall for bragging rights as the Bright Stars Senior IDOL. The winner receives a $500 check, and another $500 check is donated to his or her chosen charity. Last year’s winner was Rick Miller, whose charity check went to 50 Legs in 50 Days, Inc. which provides prosthetics to adults and children.

Local auditions will be held from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Brandon Community Center, January 27, 502 E. Sadie St. Brandon.
