Brandon runners ready for early 2021 contests
Local runners are getting ready to usher in the new year with The Brandon Half Marathon and 5K coming in early January.
Registration for the Brandon Half Marathon will be $60 and the Brandon 5K will be $30.
The course will be new this year, and will be fast and mostly flat. The routes for both races will be along the Brandon Parkway. The Half Marathon will continue on along the Selmon Expressway. Temperatures around this time are usually in the fifties, so perfect for running. The Half Marathon will have a cut-off time of three hours and fifteen minutes.
Swag will include long-sleeved shirts sporting this year’s graphic design and free photos. Top three finishers in each age category, and the overall winners in both the Half Marathon and the 5K, will receive awards.
After the awards ceremony, the post-race party will serve up hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers, and grilled chicken. Organizers say free beer will be available to runners, along with soda or water. Runners will also be able to get on-site massages.
The Half Marathon will begin at 7:00 am while the 5K will begin shortly after at 7:15 am. All proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The event will take place at the Oakfield Business Center, 1341 Oakfield Drive, on January 10.
