Brandon hosts state annual button show
The 2019 Florida State Button Society Annual Meeting and Show will be here in town in Mid-January. The show will promote preservation, collecting, and enjoyment of buttons.
The event is titled ‘Escape from the Zoo’ and will include a button auction led by auctioneer Bruce Beck. The auction is the major fundraiser for the show’s expenses and will include both buttons and related items. Brandon enthusiasts can preview the items to be auctioned during the hour before the bidding begins. Following the auction will be a Dessert Reception.
Educational programs will take place in the afternoon. This year’s speakers will be Kelly Provost, who will be speaking about “buttons on original cards”, and Susie Smith, who will talk about the history of buttons and how to hunt for them. Both presentations will have visitor interaction.
The vendor showroom will have between 20 and 40 vendors selling trays of vintage, unique, and interesting buttons of all shapes, sizes and composition. Many guests will be collecting vendors’ business cards so they can contact them after the show.
Registration can include the Saturday Night Banquet, Showroom registration and the Awards Banquet. Ribbons and award money will be given in 40 categories.
The Florida State Button Society Annual Meeting and Show will be January 17 through 20 at the Sheraton Tampa Brandon, which is at 10221 Princess Palm Avenue. The auction is scheduled for Friday, January 18 beginning at 8:00 pm.
