Brandon enjoys USF music talent

The University Of South Florida (USF) School of Music will need to get its new year brochure printing done as soon as possible to present five events over the first few days in February.

The McCormick Marimba Festival will begin Friday, January 31 at 7:30 pm and continue from 8:30 am Saturday, February 1 until 6:00 pm that evening. Professional and guest university ensembles will perform. All the free performances will be in the university’s Concert Hall.

Also on February 1 at 3:00 pm at the USF Theatre 1, 3839 USF Holly Drive, Tampa, the DanceUSF students will showcase their original choreographic work.

That evening, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, the theater will be turned over to the Staged Reading Series with two potential plays in running for being presented next season. Other plays in the competition will be shown February 2 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, February 7:30 until 9:30 pm and February 9 from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm.

In Barness Recital Hall, on February 2, The Composition in Asia Symposium will have its closing concert beginning at 2:00 pm. The performance will be the music of two well-known composers – Michael Timpson, a professor at Ewha Womans University and Chichun Chi-Sun Lee, a female composer from Taiwan.

The hall will also present violinist Daniela Shtreva and USF faculty member John T. Posadas on viola on, February 5 starting at 7:30 pm. They will be playing works of Martinu.
