Wilmington welcomes Austin tech startup
The co-founders of a company based in Austin, Texas, made a big splash in Wilmington recently.
Rafael Lopez and JC Glancy are the brains behind Counsl, but had never been to Delaware until this year. However, the information they provided about their new company was so appealing that they found themselves in meetings last month with business leaders, officials of Delaware's Department of State, and the Governor himself, Jack Markell.
The excitement Glancy and Lopez are generating is due to an ‘app’ they have created that will modernize and streamline the process of incorporation. The app has special appeal to Delaware, because the state is known for its business-friendly stance, which has led to nearly 1.2m businesses incorporating under the laws of Delaware, including Facebook, where Glancy used to work.
Lopez notes that people in Austin do not seem to understand their new app, and that investment has not been forthcoming as a result. He says they had a potential investor interested, but it took them five months to bring him up to speed on how the market works and why their app is necessary. In Wilmington, everyone understood them immediately, Lopez explained.
Founders of apps like Counsl often create presentation folders so that they can give a coherent package of information to interested parties as they continue to develop their enterprise.
