Wilmington College learns to play the game
A new office has been launched at Wilmington College to focus on the growing business of mobile gaming.
Exalt Games is the company behind the development, and is it not looking far afield for its staff. A day after his graduation, Jesse Lavigne found a job with North Carolina company at its new business incubator office in Wilmington. Thiago De Oliveira is a senior at the school, and began working with Exalt at the same time.
According to Scott Shaw, a gaming degree professor at the university, the Lavigne and De Oliveira have been pumping out games since they started.
Their first game for smartphones, titled ‘Puzzlesque’, had its prototype delivery after just four weeks, and the game was completed after 12. It is currently available on both iOS and Android. Their second game, Fruit-Slinger, should be available in just a few weeks.
Highlighting the benefits of start-up support systems to students, the new space offers a place to work, a chance to be mentored, and some real life lessons on how to meet job expectations and excel in a role.
Shaw told Delaware Online that the incubator helps to prepare students to join the workforce. He met the people who co-founded Exalt Games while attending a conference, and that networking session and the likely exchange of digital business cards within it resulted in the first tenant for the university’s incubator.
