What's Happening in Wilmington, DE…

Sprites sighted in Wilmington

Fairies, sprites, gnomes and other fantastic creatures will be found in Wilmington very soon.

A Faerie Fest celebrating the change from summer to fall is set to be held at Rockwood Museum in Wilmington. Attendees are encouraged to turn up in costume and enjoy stories games, gnome and faerie parades, enchanted crafts, children's museum tours, and a gnome home and faerie house contest. This last activity is a contest in which participants build homes appropriate for gnomes and fairies.

Also taking part in the fun are vendors, who will be on hand to sell faerie-themed wares. There will be a number of food vendors as well, and special guests like the Tooth Fairy, the Fairy Queen, and Philip the Gnome.

The Wilmington Ballet Academy of Dance will perform for the first time this year, and visitors will be able to visit Tinkertown to build a problem-solving device. Although there is a $10 fee to take part in the Gnome Home and Faerie House building project, there are a number of free activities including face painting, art on the rocks, and bubbles. There are also classes planned in wand making and faerie wing making.

The Faerie Fest is slated for this Sunday, September 20, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Rockwood Museum is on Washington Street. Event organizers could work with a banner printing company to create a festive banner to decorate the venue.
