What's Happening in Wilmington, DE…

See the Bards Tempest in Wilmington

Lovers of classic literature have a treat in store if they are in the Wilmington area.

In particular, they have a chance to watch a production of one of the plays written by perhaps the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. The play this year, which is the 18th season for the Delaware Shakespeare Summer Festival, is “The Tempest.”

The play, one of the last Shakespeare wrote, is a magical tale of revenge and romance, set on an island where the magician Prospero and his daughter Miranda live, apart from the world. When Prospero causes a storm to wreck a ship and bring his enemies ashore, he finally has a chance to get back at them for their betrayal. He doesn't count on his daughter falling in love with one of them, Ferdinand. Adding to the misadventures are the monster Caliban, who lives in a cave on the island, and Prospero's reluctant servant, the sprite Ariel.

The production is directed by David Stradley, Delaware Shakespeare's Producing Artistic Director. He last helmed a production in 2016, when he directed “The Comedy of Errors.”

The season opens July 17, a Friday, and runs through August 2. Plays are performed on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; the theater is dark Mondays and Tuesdays. Brochure printing is an excellent resource to use to create intriguing programs for events such as this.
