Temecula teen drivers were recently given an opportunity to sharpen their road skills and learn how to operate their vehicles as safely as possible.
The Start Smart class, which was offered by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), was geared towards both young people who either don’t have their license yet, or have recently passed. Their parents were invited to take part too.
It taught young motorists the factors that are often involved in collisions and how to avoid them, as well as what their responsibilities are as a driver. They were given instruction about the importance of wearing seat belts, avoiding distracted driving, and how to handle having passengers in their car who are acting in a manner that makes driving unsafe.
Part of the instruction also involved learning about the motor vehicle accident tendencies in the local area, as knowing this can help them know what to watch out for and stay safe.
There was no charge to take part in the two-hour course, and once it was over, each driver was given a certificate of completion for the Start Smart program. Items like this can be designed and produced by local Stationery printing companies.
The course was made available, in part, through funding grant that was received from the California Office of Traffic Safety in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Further information is available on the California Highway Patrol Start Smart website.
