Temecula to celebrate its special athletes

A sporting event has been planned for Tacoma that will give those with developmental disabilities a chance to shine.

The Temecula Special Games, which are open to people of all ages, will be a celebration that showcases the special athletic abilities of the participants. Hosted by the Temecula Valley Unified School District and the City of Temecula, the festivities will include an opening ceremony as well as a variety of sporting events and games that focus on ability and not competition. The athletes will be served a lunch, and the day will wind up with a closing ceremony.

The organizers of the event have put out a call for volunteers who would be willing to lend a hand. One of the opportunities that is available is that of a volunteer buddy. Each of the athletes will be partnered with a volunteer who will be there to provide support and assistance throughout the day. Graphic design can be used by a printer to create logos and other promotional items for a function such as this.

The Temecula Special Games will be held on April 22 at Great Oak High School. Anyone who would like to take part as an athlete or volunteer is asked to register their interest in doing so before April 19. This can be done through the City of Temecula website, which also contains more information about the event.
