The lake in question was constructed back in 1995 to provide drinking water to the region. However, a recent dip in the water level has affected recreational activity on the surface of the reservoir.
It has been announced that boat launches should be able to happen again due to the completion of a ramp extension in a few months. The Metropolitan Water District (MWD) could then use postcard printing in Temecula to showcase what will be available for tourists. George Kramer, local fisherman, has drawn attention to the potential length of the ramp and he has said:
“It helps your overall fitness if it doesn’t take you out.”
The design of the ramp is still under discussion. It has been suggested that the full details will be made available to the public later in the summer.
The project will be resourced from the funds of the MWD. A spokesperson for this organization has revealed that the attendance of a few thousand visitors at one marina led to the accumulation of in excess of $80,000 during the course of 2014.
This year, the drought in the state has been severe. As a consequence, the reservoir has not even been half full. This has proven disruptive for a prime fishing spot.
