Plants under the spotlight at upcoming class

Temecula residents who are interested in learning about orchids will have an opportunity to do so very soon.

The subject of the Temecula Valley Garden Club's January meeting is a program entitled ‘An Introduction to Orchids’. The speaker will be Steve Morgan, who is curator of the University of California, Riverside Botanic Gardens.

The Botanic Gardens cover 40 acres and have four miles of trails for visitors to enjoy. The gardens were established primarily as a teaching facility, and host more than 3,500 species of plants from around the globe for researchers and visitors to study. The large number of plants has also created a wildlife sanctuary, at which more than 200 species of birds can be found.

Morgan's program will teach participants how they can grow orchids in their homes, or even in their gardens. Many people mistakenly believe it is only possible to grow these exotic flowers in greenhouses.

The meeting is slated for 9:30 am on January 13 at the Temecula Community Recreation Center. The center is located at 30875 Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. Visitors are welcome, and more information is available on the garden club's website.

Event organizers might consider working with a poster printing company to create a poster for the event. Considering the subject of the talk is an orchid, the poster could be an extraordinarily beautiful work of art.
