For those who love fresh tomatoes, the 6th Annual Tomato Taste-Off will be an important date on the September Calendars.
Downtown Roseville FM will be hosting the salsa contest that will be part of the celebration of the red fruit. Admission will be free and so will the tomatoes.
Guests will be tasting tomatoes and voting on their favorite heirloom variety. All entries will be grown here in California, and prizes will be awarded in the categories of Best Tasting, Most Beautiful, Meatiest, and Sweetest.
Free canning demonstrations, prizes, and games are on the agenda. Anyone who has a great salsa recipe and can concoct it can enter the Best Salsa contest. There will be three categories in the salsa contest– mild, spicy, and sweet. The only stipulation is that the main ingredient must be tomatoes. First prize will be a $20 gift certificate and a farmers’ market gift basket. Second place will receive a $10 gift certificate and a gift basket. Winners will have pictures of themselves and their salsa, their names, and the name of their salsa in the local newspaper, so they might want a copy of the original picture for later poster printing.
The fun will be on Saturday, September 10 in Downtown Farmers’ Market, 311 Vernon Street in Roseville, running from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.
