Family musical on its way to town

Roseville parents and their teen offspring looking for something to do this month might consider attending a performance of ‘13 the Musical’.

This show is a 2009 Drama Desk Award nominee that follows the vagaries of popularity in an Indiana Middle School.

The show is centered on Evan Goldman. At the age of 13, he is uprooted from his life in New York City and moved to a much smaller town in Indiana where he is to be enrolled into a new Middle School. Other characters are introduced, each with their own song and apparent baggage.

The story is meant to showcase the difficulty that people sometimes face in trying to fit in. Songs, such as ‘Thirteen/Becoming a Man’ illustrate the difficulties associated with moving from adolescence into adulthood as viewed through the eyes of a nervous young man. Other tunes, such as ‘All Hail the Brain/Terminal Illness’ offer a glimpse of the irrational fears common to the everyday man when forced into an uncomfortable position.

Those planning to attend may want to use the performance as a way to connect with their own kids. Others may want to have flyer printing done for distribution to help promote the event.

The musical will be presented at the Tower Theater, 417 Vernon Street, Roseville, the first, second and third Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays of March. Performances will start at 7:00 pm, except for the performance on the 19th which will start at 2:00 pm. General admission will be $15, seniors $12, and kids $8.
