Ballet classic to be beamed live in town

A local cinema in Roseville has been selected as one of the venues nationwide to host a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’.

The holiday showing of Tchaikovsky’s classic tale of a young girl and her beloved nutcracker will be broadcast live from Moscow, to an HD screen in the cinema. This version of the ballet classic has been written and choreographed especially for the Bolshoi by Yuri Gregorivich, the company’s former Artistic Director.

E.T.A. Hoffman’s story of the same name was the basis of the timely story about a young girl coming of age at Christmastime, and is a story beloved by young and old. The excitement of her parent’s Christmas party, her godfather Herr Drosselmyer’s gift of the Nutcracker, and her brother Fritz breaking her new gift spur the girls’ imagination.

In her dreams, the ingénue’s fantasy takes over and the Nutcracker Prince battles the Mouse King, then takes her away to an enchanted palace at which she is the guest of honor. There she enjoys entertainment, including the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, Waltz of the Flowers and other performances by Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, and Russian dancers. A lot of poster printing has been carried out for this ballet classic down through the years.

The event is scheduled for this Sunday, December 21 at 12:55pm at Century Roseville 14, 1555 Eureka Road, Roseville.
