As summer transitions to fall, migrating birds will be passing through the Phoenix area, and an outing has been planned for area birders so they can take in the spectacle.
The Glendale Recharge Ponds provide habitat for a variety of avian species, and the organizer of the activity are hoping that they will be able to spot as many as possible, including those that are on their way south. Everyone is advised to bring plenty of drinking water, and there are spaces for up to six people.
In an effort to avoid the heat of the day, the excursion will begin at sunrise, and the trail the group will follow is described as being mostly level but there will be a lot of walking. The participants can count on seeing both common and unusual species, and they may even be lucky enough to spot a lifer to add to their personal list. Before the session wraps up, the participants will go over the birds they spotted, and while there’s no registration fees, donations to the organizers will be welcome.
An experience like this can be a good way for newbie birders to get their feet wet. Basic information guides for events like this are often ordered from a local printing services company.
The Maricopa Audubon Society will be hosting this guided outing on September 8th. The participants will head out at 5:00 am.
