The event is one of several races that Women’s Running magazine is organising. Christina MacDonald, its editor, has explained what the event is all about:
“Our aim is to inspire and motivate women of all ages and abilities to run, and these events provide the framework to make that happen. All women taking part will be encouraged to achieve their own personal goals, from simply getting around a 10k course, to achieving a personal best.”
The event organisers are taking active steps to support those women intending to run. These measures include the provision of sensible training Plans. On the big day, pacemakers will be provided to assist the ordinary runners. Banner printing at Southampton (Hedge End) could be used if those in charge of the event require professional Banners to be made.
The course itself is not very hilly. Nonetheless, runners will have to cope with the odd incline and will need to adapt to a range of surfaces. However, the bulk of the course is pathway.
All the runners who complete the course will get a medal and a confirmation of their finishing time. In addition, runners will be given a T-shirt and a bag. The runners are being encouraged to enter the race early. On the day, everyone will be prompted to warm up and warm down properly. Tea will be made available after the race.
