Southampton police cadet project proves popular

A scheme in Southampton which encourages volunteers to become police cadets is going to be made available to individuals elsewhere in Hampshire.

Steve Swift, a cadet leader, has said:

“This is a fantastic scheme aimed at improving the future potential of young people as well as providing the constabulary with an excellent form of positive engagement with young people and the community.”

PC Swift has stressed that the continued success of the project is dependent on charitable gifts from people and businesses. Perhaps Hampshire Constabulary will use poster printing in Southampton (Hedge End) to advertise fundraising activities in the future.

Hampshire Constabulary has held a ceremony for the first lot of cadets that have passed through the scheme. The event was witnessed by a chief constable, and an elected police commissioner was also in attendance on the special day.

The 74 recruits who had their achievements recognised at the ceremony had passed through several weeks of training. They had worked on their leadership and teamwork skills. In addition, they had undertaken and completed a course in first aid.

With their induction finished with, the cadets are ready to assist local police with various tasks. Their work in the community could be rewarding for them, and they are scheduled to participate in a police event being held in August. However, the group is headed for a woodland-based activity first.
