Southampton Hospital charity wins from fundraising pair

A local couple who lost their son to a bone marrow problem have raised nearly £30,000 for charity through establishing a fund that supports Southampton Hospital.

Andy Baker and Sophie Baker saw their young son Isaac pass away back in 2013. Since then, they have secured at least £27,000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust and a Southampton Hospital fund. They are just about to participate in a half-marathon in Southampton to obtain even more money for good causes.

Baker has revealed how important the hospital was in the final months of the life of his son. If charities linked to Southampton Hospital wish to attract more donations, they could use printing companies in Southampton in the future.

Baker has said:

“Isaac had a bone marrow transplant in March 2013, and we’ll always be grateful to the donor who gave him a chance of a healthy life. Without the donor register run by the Anthony Nolan Trust, he wouldn’t have even had that chance.”

The money the Bakers have raised has been in part spent on adding potential donors to the register of the trust in question. In addition, the resources gathered have allowed six fresh heart monitors to be housed within the hospital.

The Bakers are both employed by ExxonMobil, which has contributed around £3,000 to the total raised by its staff.
