The proposals are reliant on planning permission being granted by the local authority in Eastleigh. This permission is necessitated by the fact that the company behind the fresh initiative, TJX Europe, intends to alter the type of product being sold from the site.
While the original Wickes outlet sold items useful for DIY, the newly suggested arrangement would involve the retail of home goods and clothing. If TK Maxx does operate from the site, managers could decide to use Stationery printing in Southampton (Hedge End) so any letters they send look the part.
TK Maxx currently has almost 300 shops across the country. This includes three stores in the vicinity of the new project. These are situated in Fareham, Eastleigh and Southampton.
Assurances have been made to the effect that the future of the other units is not being threatened by the potential development at Hedge End. In addition, recruitment may be conducted locally.
Councillor Keith House has told the Southern Daily Echo:
“This is good news for shoppers in the Hedge End and wider area, who will not have to travel so far to get to TK Maxx.”
