Timmins workshop to address autism and anxiety

Children and adults with an autism spectrum disorder can often experience high level of anxiety, and a Timmins workshop will share ideas and techniques for coping with this issue.

The presenter for the occasion will be Suzanne Murphy who has more than 35 years of experience in working in the field of autism, primarily through the lens of applied behavioral analysis (ABA). The session is intended for educators, parents and professionals who work with those with an ASD, and registration is offered free of charge to individuals in these areas.

The workshop will address an assortment of topics, including a discussion of anxiety, its causes, and how it can be recognized and assessed. There will also be ideas shared about how an individual with autism can learn coping strategies they can use when they feeling stressed and how anxious feelings can be prevented in the first place.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am, and it will run until 2:30 pm. While anyone who feels it could be helpful to them is welcome, registration is required. Learning materials, such as handouts and other items for a learning opportunity like this, can be provided by area Stationery printers.

This session has been planned for May 12, and it will be held in Timmins’ North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s services, which is located at 707 Ross Avenue East.
