Timmins to take mental health first aid training

A course that will teach learners what to do in a mental health emergency is set to be on offer near Timmins.

Just as with the physical body, the mind can sometimes be in need of urgent care, and this will be the focus of the Mental Health First Aid workshop. It is for those who are aged 18 and up who work or otherwise interact with other adults, and it will be focused on the four issues that are most commonly encountered.

The class will include a discussion of mental health concerns that may arise at home and in the workplace, and the students will be encouraged to share what they have learned with other people in their lives. The instruction will take place over a weekend, and the syllabus includes a variety of topics.

Offering this sort of learning opportunity is one of the ways a community can reduce the stigma that may surround mental illness, while also ensuring residents know how to recognize and support those who need some help. Educational materials for such an occasion can be both designed and printed by a Stationery printing company.

The Timmins Campus of Northern College has scheduled its Mental Health First Aid for November 8th and 9th. The tuition fee for the short course is $330.00 each plus HST.
