The fourth annual Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival will take place at Mountjoy Historical Conservation Park from August 25 - 26 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. Admission is free for the general public.
There will be competitive and non-competitive racing in the kayak race, with cash prizes up for grabs. Those taking part pay from $30 to $110 depending on age and level of experience. All kayakers are responsible for supplying their own equipment.
In addition to the kayak challenge, there will be shedloads of activities suitable for the entire family, such as musical entertainment from five bands, children's activities such as pony rides, rock climbing and inflatables, Aboriginal displays, a rubber duck race, and a plethora of vendors. The duck race costs $5 for each duck and the winner claims a cash prize of $2,500, with all proceeds going to support the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Vendors will consist of commercial companies, community organizations, and local artists. Artists and commercial vendors pay $25 for a booth, while community organizations are free.
Community organizations who wish to take part in the Festival might be in cahoots with Timmins printing companies in advance. They may be considering providing literature about their organization to the public and local brochure printers will be able to provide what they need for a very reasonable price. Organizers of the event might also be calling on printing companies to provide them with items such as Banners and Signs to acknowledge sponsors of the Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival.
