Kayak Challenge returns to Timmins this August

The 6th annual Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival is being held in Timmins for three days this August along the Mattagami River.

The event is set to feature both elite and recreational kayakers. Registration fees start at $30 for novice and go up to $110 for elite. There will be cash prizes to be won, and there will also be a three-person kayak event that will raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation; registration is $100 - $150 each.

There will be plenty for those who are not competing to take part in during the day. There will be paddling clinics, seminars, a river cruise, and even a triathlon. In addition, there will be stand up paddle board demonstrations.

Non-sporting activities include an aboriginal village, arts and crafts vendors, children's activities, fireworks, and a performance by the Stampeders. There will also be a Heart of Gold Highland Dance Competition and a Rubber Duck Race that will raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

Some of the participants taking part may do so as a team, and might contact Timmins printing companies to help provide them with printed T-Shirts, especially those who plan to race in the three-person kayak event.

The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival is taking place from August 22nd to 24th in the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area. Call 705-360-2640 to learn more.
